I am nearly half way through my summer holiday - though this last week has been so rainy and blowy it hasn't been the expected week of day trips and ice cream I had thought it might be. Still, just being off work is bliss, and the weather has meant I have felt justified in getting on with more making of Wild Things. So, here is a very quick post about my newest item, just listed in my Etsy shop, a necklace made using my seahorse painting. I'm really pleased with this piece, I have used chain instead of ribbon for the necklace and think it works really well. Fingers crossed someone else will love it too :o)
I'm off to work on a big, fluffy bumble bee painting that will hopefully be used in some jewellery pieces too. I'll be back soon, hopefully with bee complete and some sketches from days out I will have when the sun comes back out - because it will, it always does! Maybe I'll get a proper chance to have a play with my shiny new camera kit too!! Watch this space.

Raena, I so know what you mean about available funds - I'd spend an absolute fortune on Etsy if I could! I really appreciate your lovely comment! The artwork is printed with an ordinary Epson inkjet - but, I use a special spray (made by Hahnemuhle - the watercolour paper people) to spray the pictures I have printed (the paper is a special inkjet paper made by Bockingford that has the look / feel of watercolour paper). The spray protects the image against dirt / damage and especially UV damage. I have had a test print, treated with this spray, and half the image covered, on my sunniest windowsill - which does get an awful lot of strong sunlight - for nearly six months now and can report that if there is any fading, it is not visible to the naked eye! I figure jewellery worn occasionally will only get a small percentage of the exposure to sunlight that my test piece does.
The prints are then sandwiched between 2 sheets of glass (microscope slides are perfect, in the seahorse necklace I cut them down slightly to suit the picture) then the frame is made by first sealing the two pieces together with copper tape, then I solder them using high silver content, lead-free solder. It sounds much more complicated / time consuming than it is. Next time I make a batch, I'll get The Husband to photograph each stage and share the technique - in case anyone else fancies having a go!
